The departure from Lausanne is painful, two small passes for breakfast.

A strong wind slows us down but our little makeshift group fights valiantly. Finally the border, home.

The crossing of the Jura is beautiful but too short. Soon it’s Burgundy and endless fields, its false flats climbing… The heat, without being overwhelming, combined with the intense effort we make to stay on schedule, makes us drip.

The 200 km break is celebrated with a jump into a public fountain before the astonished eyes of wedding guests. I regularly empty my water bottles over my neck to avoid overheating.

Mood is variable, proportional to blood sugar levels. A terrible hill at kilometer 230 finishes us. I want to crack. Fortunately at the top, a huge and excellent kebab sets me right.

We then glide quietly for 40 kilometers towards a small campsite. The owner yells at us for arriving too late, but for €5 a night, I have nothing to complain about.

The night will be short, we want to leave no later than 5am because rain arrives at 6am and we’re sleeping under the stars. Tomorrow I can finally try to renegotiate my ferry ticket…

Torino: pronto, più veloce, velocissimo… Located in the Aosta Valley and already a bit smoked… gasping on the St Bernard, we saw you pretty pasty arriving in Lausanne. Yesterday, sometimes lazy, sometimes nervous when it got to you… Yet you weren’t a snail in that falsely flat Burgundy. Today you wake up at dawn… PARIS is worth you not stopping… Vai avanti Ivan.
