Waking up is hard this morning; the accumulation of stages is taking its toll. Nevertheless, we set off at quarter to five for a long climb, whose summit reveals a magnificent sunrise.
Today is an easy stage — sun and rolling terrain on the programme. We walk quickly through the grassy hills. The mist, however, does not lift from the mountains.
The San Petru relay is our stop for the night; we arrive at 1pm. Fat beef ribs crackle over a wood fire, hunters are seated at the tables. We settle into this cheerful atmosphere, and our travelling companions quickly join us. The afternoon is gentle; we drink a few pastis in good company, around a map to plan tomorrow’s stage. Unfortunately, a big storm is forecast and nobody seems ready to face it in their tent.
With alternative plans ready, everyone heads to bed, ready to face what promises to be a gruelling day.
