Departure

Strange atmosphere this morning at the refuge. Many of us are finishing the GR20 adventure today, and a relaxed, serene mood hangs over the bivouac area. Especially since the day promises to be beautiful. The sun rises lazily over the island of Montecristo, northeast of Corsica, and we indulge in the luxury of a few minutes of silence before the multitude of orange variations the sky takes on.

We finally set off around 6:30am with our companions, in a wild and hot descent toward the village. The chatter flows freely; everyone is delighted to leave this hell of earth and stone. Because while the GR20 is magnificent, it is also a gruelling adventure for both body and mind.

Conca

We arrive a little after 10am in Conca, at the ideally located bar, right on the GR. A small coffee, a few pats on the back, an “official” photo, and already the shuttle is arriving. While most hikers head for Porto-Vecchio, we go down to Sainte-Lucie with William. A town of no interest, at the crossroads of two main roads. Yet this is where the bus to Bastia stops, which we plan to catch today to make the most of the few days of relaxation we have left on the Isle of Beauty.

Epilogue

End of a beautiful adventure, which put our bodies through the wringer! But what a pleasure to find each other again and set off together to conquer this epic GR. Over the days of walking, we’ve already begun plotting our next trip…
