Fog

We leave early in the morning from Grasse, where we met up the night before in a tiny Airbnb barely large enough for our big frames. The weather is gloomy without being unpleasant, though we would have liked to enjoy the sea view, instead of enduring a thick, persistent fog. It is only after a good climb, on the heights of the city, that the blue sky reveals itself.

Of stone

The walk is pleasant, the trails are good, grassy and dotted with small light-coloured rocks. I love this light terrain, the steps are easy and almost airy, if we momentarily forget the packs weighing about 16 kilos that bring our feet back down to earth.

It takes us the whole day to reach the (very) small town of Gréolières. We are warmly welcomed there, in a tiny Spar where we do some shopping. For tonight, we will sleep peacefully in a field on the outskirts of town, dotted with yellow flowers. We were told the spot is safe, so we don’t hesitate.

We test my new tent, fresh out of “the workshop”. My only fear: that it won’t withstand the forecast rain!
