A relatively early start at 8am, after a hearty breakfast of banana and peanut butter sandwiches. It climbs in the first few kilometers as we have to ascend the causse, but the climb is brief and we quickly descend to Sauliac where we can take a short break and replenish our water. The real difficulty of the day occurs just after…
Once the Célé is crossed via a pretty stone bridge, we muster our courage to tackle the causse that separates us from Saint-Cirq-Lapopie. This time it’s longer, especially since the temperature has seriously risen. After the undergrowth, a grassy, scorched plateau welcomes us. A small wooden structure allows us to eat in the shade while enjoying — or enduring, depending on your perspective — the song of the cicadas. The descent is quickly swallowed, although the sun now weighs heavily on our sweaty heads.
A quick stop at the supermarket and a dip in the Lot later, and we’re in Saint-Cirq. Like good tourists, we climb the highest step of the Belvedere before going to dinner at a charming little restaurant in town.
Tonight our legs are heavy, tomorrow will be tough!
